Many times, The Brian Jonestown Massacre have received more attention for their bravado than for their music. Admittedly, there’s some stuff to talk about – rock beef with The Dandy Warhols, copious amounts of drugs, fights and ego-tripping like no other. But behind the turbulent facade is a band – led at all times by psych-general Anton Newcombe – who time and again take us by surprise with their music. It’s rowdy and motley, hypnotically beautiful and terrifying at the same time – quite simply some of the sickest and best stuff to be seen live. We are proud to welcome The Brian Jonestown Massacre back to Sweden for two concerts next year – 21 February at Slaktkyrkan in Stockholm and 23 February at Moriska Paviljongen in Malmö.
Whether they’re experimenting with 60s psychedelia, garage or jangly pop, The Brian Jonestown Massacre always sound like themselves. Led by Anton Newcombe, the band has existed in various constellations since 1990, releasing 19 studio albums in that time, starting in 1995, with two more to come this year. In 2004, the band’s turbulent existence was the main subject of the documentary Dig!, which portrayed the band alongside the not-so-tinged The Dandy Warhols.
