This year’s series of events at Transparent Sound is even more special than before, as it also marks the festival’s 10th anniversary. As always, the repertoire will include new music-related art forms, group sessions, talks and the inevitable introductory events. The two composers who have brought the festival to life – Samu Gryllus and Balázs Horváth – aim to provide cultural nourishment and inspiration for open-minded people.
The Transparent Sound New Music Festival was founded in 2014 by two composers, Balázs Horváth and Samu Gryllus, in collaboration with a number of well-known Budapest concert halls and organisations, including the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Trafó House of Contemporary Arts, Budapest Music Center, Müpa Budapest and FUGA Budapest Architecture Centre.
The name of the festival also reflects its aims. Transparency in new music means that audiences can participate in interactive workshops and performances before or during concerts to help them understand new compositional ideas. At the same time, in musical terms, transparency can also refer to works that combine both the aural and the visual layers – in the form of new music theatre or new media – which are the main focus of the festival.
