The Devil and Kate

01.02.2023 - 02.04.2023

Fairy-tale opera in three acts. Dvořák’s opera on the theme of the eponymous fairy tale by Božena Němcová will attract not only children but also teenagers thanks to acrobatics and parkour. The charming devil Marbuel, disguised as a hunter, appears at the village party and dances Káča so that she can hardly catch her breath. Marbuel then takes Káča straight to hell, from where the shepherd Jirka decides to free her. The stubborn Káča puts even hell itself on alert and forces the devil to return her himself.

Hell may represent not only a place but also a state of mind. Each of us is said to have a little bit of hell in us, and it is up to us whether we allow it to interfere in our lives. The wicked priestess is up to her ears in her hell, and without help, she will have a hard time getting out of it. Can Káča help her or will Lucifer himself take the priestess away?

A typical feature of The Devil and the Kate are the bravura instrumental dance stylizations that wind their way through the opera: the waltz, the polonaise, the polka or the famous Infernal Dance.

The new production of The Devil and the Kate by the young director Zuzana Fischer is a family opera title full of dynamism and movement thanks to dancers, acrobats and parkour players.
