Hungarian Expo Successes

13.12.2022 - 20.08.2023

The Hungarian National Museum’s latest exhibition, Hungarian EXPO Successes (1851-2021), aims to present the the 32 world exhibitions held over 170 years and the Hungarian successes featured in them. The fascinating exhibition is the fruit of an almost impossible undertaking to track down most of the artifacts related to the world exhibitions in Hungarian public collections and present them to the public in the largest possible number. This is the first time in the history of Hungarian museums that such a comprehensive temporary exhibition of the most important segments of Hungarian cultural history has been presented in a single location, bringing together and presenting works of art from some 50 public Hungarian collections and private collectors related to world exhibitions.

In the 170 years that have passed, everything has changed: trends have gone out and come back, slightly stilted and redefined, be it fonts, costumes, telephones, steam engines or streamlined magnetic trains.
The exhibition defines Hungarian cultural treasures in an international perspective, in an international space.

The aim of the exhibition is to provide a complex presentation of the Hungarian participation and successes in the world exhibitions, presented in the international space of world exhibitions, but it also aims to demonstrate the creation, significance and impact of world exhibitions on humanity. The exhibition aims to do this by presenting each theme in a thematic structure and in chronological order. In addition to Hungarian fine and applied arts, the exhibition also includes architecture, the history of science and technology, crafts, commerce, food and catering.
