Welcome to the Christmas Fair at the Royal Stables
For the sixteenth consecutive year, we are organising a Christmas Fair in the heart of Stockholm during the first weekend of Advent. The fair is held at the Royal Stables at a time when the whole of Stockholm is immersed in a magical Christmas atmosphere. The former Hovstallet was built in 1697 by the palace architect Nicodemus Tessin the Younger on Helgeandsholmen, where Parliament House is located today.
The current Hovstallet on Väpnargatan 1 in the Kusen district of Östermalm was built by architect Fritz Eckert on behalf of Oscar II between 1890 and 1894. It houses the royal family’s fleet of vehicles and their distinguished collection of carriages, of which the Sjuglas carriage is considered the most distinguished. The collection is considered to be the best in the world. The Royal Stables also contain harnesses with golden fittings and beautiful uniforms.
Here at Hovstallet we are offering plenty of Swedish Christmas tradition in the three days. Our guides will show you the royal carriages used for state visits (including the Sjuglas carriage). You can also visit the stables and look at the King’s horses.
In the smithy, as you would expect, there is a blacksmith producing high-quality forged products. At the Christmas market you will also meet some seventy of the country’s best craftsmen and can find personalised Christmas gifts in all shapes and materials. The fair also features a well-stocked food stall with all the delicacies of Christmas.
We warmly welcome you to Stockholm’s finest and most exclusive Christmas fair.
