Central American Film Festival

A rollercoaster of emotions. Light and shadow. Repression and resistance. Neither black nor white, our program resembles a colourful mosaic. Because life is colorful, especially in Central America. So we open with a feature film that highlights precarious working conditions and dementia on the one hand, and humor and friendship on the other. Our documentaries also offer dark and colorful pieces of the mosaic. They are dedicated to the dark pasts of Guatemala and El Salvador, but also to the conciliatory theme of art, which has found its way into our program in a wide variety of formats.

This year, too, a special place will be given to short films. All screenings will be accompanied by cortometrajes, and on Tuesday our audience can enjoy several films in a row with just one ticket. On Wednesday, we take a look at this year’s guest country, Paraguay, which brings us closer to the reality of life for the Ayoreo and tells a touching life story of a person who sets out in search of his roots.

As usual, our program will be accompanied by experts, framed by live music and sweetened with cocktails. We would also like to extend a warm invitation to our younger audience: On several days, school events with didactic material will be offered in the afternoon. We look forward to exciting discussions in the movie theater! This year, we are dedicating our festival to political change in Guatemala. We want to emphasize the importance of continued engagement and broad popular participation in the political process, as we firmly believe that no resistance is futile.
