Tantolunden is definitely one of the most beautiful parks in Stockholm. And for summer, it´s here to provide a great escape from hectic life and offer swimming and other fun activities!
Tantolunden is a large park by Årstaviken on the island of Södermalm. Its location close to the restaurants and cafés of Hornstull, Mariatorget, and SoFo has made the area a popular meeting place for young Stockholmers. People of all ages meet here for swimming and picnics in the summer and for sledding in the winter. There’s a playground, beach volleyball court, minigolf, a frisbee golf course, and an open-air theater. Don’t miss the chance to take a stroll up the hill and enjoy the more than 100 allotment gardens and garden sheds. Creative carpentry and gardening have been blooming behind the fences since 1915.
Tantolunden is a lush mountain park dominated by large trees and lots of vegetation, wide and generous walkways. The park is one of Södermalm’s most visited parks and serves as an important link between Ringvägen and Årstaviken.
There is a bathing area, playground, dog park, ball fields and an outdoor gym.
The sense of nature and the topography of the park give it a natural division into different spaces.
The park is located within one of the value cores identified by the National Interest for Cultural Heritage. With its many large trees and mix of functions, it is one of Södermalm’s most important parks.
History:
Tantolunden is one of the city’s important mountain parks. It was built at the end of the 19th century according to Albert Lindhagen’s city regulation plan. More than 2,000 trees were planted and lawns laid out. At the turn of the century, it was decided that Tantolunden would become a playground and sports park. A sports field was built in the middle of the park and play areas were arranged towards the Ring Road.
