Hardtmuth: from angle to pencil empire

29.06.2022 - 26.03.2023

It is very likely that all of us have come across the famous brand of pencils Hardtmuth. In case you are interested in how this brand how became a concept in the world, you are cordially invited to the exhibition organised by Prague’s National Technical Museum from 29.6.2022 – 26.3.2023!

You will learn more not only about this fast-growing empire, but also about Joseph Hardtmuth – an architect, inventor and entrepreneur all in one.

The exhibition’s thorough information is complemented by interesting production artefacts like models of buildings or a replica of a ducal hat with the crown of the Princes of Liechtenstein from the 17th century. These ceramic items from the 19th century include the so-called Viennese stoneware, the oldest surviving Koh-i-noor Hardtmuth product, a pencil case from the 1880s, and an overview of pencil products from the beginning of the 20th century to 1990. Three national cultural institutions worked together to construct the exhibition.
