Since 2001, TRICKY WOMEN/TRICKY REALITIES has taken place at the beginning of March – around International Women’s Day – and focuses on animated films by women*. TRICKY WOMEN/TRICKY REALITIES thus occupies an outstanding position in the international festival landscape. In addition to the competition, the festival offers a unique overview of the animated film work of artists from all over the world and Austrian filmmakers in special programmes and retrospectives with a constantly changing thematic focus. Historical rarities and current productions are equally on the programme.

Animated documentaries, works by students from international film schools and cinematographic reflections on the topic of work/society are fixed programme tracks that have become established over the years. Exhibitions, workshops and best practice afternoons provide an insight into the creative work of filmmakers and offer the opportunity for direct exchange. The declared aim of TRICKY WOMEN/TRICKY REALITIES is to make animated film by women* in its boundless aesthetic accessible to a wide audience.
