“Dante for all” at the Teatro Flavio: INFERNO I. The appointments of Dante per tutti, the review of Dante’s readings that since 2015 enchants the Roman public, start again in the capital. On Thursday 4 November, at 9 p.m., the new season will be inaugurated at the Teatro Flavio with the reading and commentary of Canto I of Inferno, the opening canto of the great poem. The events will continue over the coming months until May 2022.
In addition to the reading and commentary on the Canto, each performance will also include an exposition of a medieval legend in line with the themes addressed in Dante’s verses. Canto I of the Inferno will in fact be introduced by one of the most famous visions of the afterlife in the Middle Ages: the story of the Irish knight Tantalus, originating in the 12th century but read in its 14th-century version in the Italian vernacular.
The great novelty of this edition will be the set design, which will be carried out by the students of the School of Set Design of the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples, under the coordination of the master and professor Gennaro Vallifuoco. A careful study of the legends and chants that will be staged has enabled the young set designers to create enchanting and immersive settings, capable of immersing the spectator in an original medieval universe with a fairytale flavour.
