Battle of Bratislava

On 30 September 2023, the cultural and historical festival The Battle of Bratislava will take place in the Janko Kráľ Garden in Bratislava.

The main part of its programme will be a reconstruction of a military conflict from the first half of the 17th century, set in the environment of historical Hungary.

As always, you can look forward to a historical camp, demonstrations of period life, regimental demonstrations, a period parade through the Old Town, live music and, of course, the Battle of Bratislava – a reconstruction of the Baroque military clash of 1619.

In this edition we will move back in time to 1619 – it will be a reconstruction of the battle, or rather a short siege, which took place in front of the city gates on 14 October 1619.

Gabriel Bethlen, the organizer of the second uprising of the Hungarian Estates against the Catholic Habsburgs, at that time controlled the whole of the rest of Upper Hungary and only Bratislava stood in his way to Vienna. After an unequal battle, Bethlen’s men overran the positions of the imperial soldiers and he triumphantly marched into Bratislava, where the palatine Sigismund Forgáč handed him the castle and the Hungarian royal crown.

The festival with accompanying programme is open to visitors from 10:00 to 19:00. At 13:00, a period parade of performers will take place through the streets of the Old Town.

The *main part of the event* – the reconstruction of the battle *takes place at 16:00* and the accompanying programme lasts from 10:00.

10:00 a.m. – Opening of the festival

11:30 a.m. – Weapons demonstrations in the camp

13:00 – Period parade through the Old Town

2:30 p.m. – Historical dances by Thurz Drabanti

3:00 p.m. – Period music by the Barbarian Bards

16:00 – Cannon Shots

16:10 – Reconstruction of the Battle of Bratislava

19:00 – Festival closing

The organizers of the event are the historical fencing groups* Banderium and** Manu Forti **from Bratislava*.

Entrance to the event is free.

The event is a historical and cultural festival and its main part – the reconstruction of the siege of the town of Presporok in 1619 will take place on Saturday, 30 September 2023 at 16:00 in the Janko Kráľ Garden.
