The main programme of the International Festival of Contemporary Dance Bratislava in Motion 2023 will take place from 2 to 21 October 2023.

This year, the festival’s dramaturgy will offer a closer look at the contemporary dance scene in Belgium. In addition to Belgian companies, artists from France, Italy, Great Britain and Slovakia will be featured.

2. 10. at 19.00 h Drama Theatre of the Slovak National Theatre Ultima Vez / BE: HANDS DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PRECIOUS ME

The ancient story of the Sumerian goddess Inanna inspired the authors to create a visually monumental work in which light meets darkness, nature meets civilisation, construction meets destruction, and the death of the existing heralds the birth of the new… With a brilliant soundscape, the dancers, moving at the limits of the body’s capabilities, remind us that we should constantly strive to find a better version of ourselves.

9.10. at 7 p.m. Studio SND Jan Martens / BE: SWEAT BABY SWEAT (60´)

Jan Martens has created a slow duet, a look at love that transcends all clichés. Two people are permanently connected, they don’t want to and can’t let go, they are dependent on each other. The provocatively slow movement gives the viewer enough space to identify his own feelings, to connect his own story with the one unfolding before his eyes.

13 October at 8 p.m. A4 Loraine Dambermont / BE: Toujours de ¾ Face (20´)

A solo full of energy, a woman revealing her secret self-defence skills with a light-hearted humorous undertone. Ching-Ying Chien /UK: VULTURE (40´) Primary inspiration comes from the ancient Tibetan myth of vultures. It is said that no one will ever see the body of a dead vulture. When a vulture knows its life is coming to an end, it flies high into the sun and dissolves into nothingness. The idea of hiding weakness and controlling one’s end is associated with the Greek myth of Icarus and Daedalus. Man imitating nature fails.

14.10. at 20.00 h A4 Divadlo Štúdio tanca / SK: AT THE HORIZON OF NO RETURN (60´)

How does our body consciously and subconsciously react to the events around us? What internal processes determine and influence our behaviour? Is free will real or just an illusion? How are we limited by our own ego? These are also the questions to which choreographer László Fülöp seeks answers through his personal optics, and the artistic ensemble of the Studio Dance Theatre will gradually reveal them to the audience with a convincing interpretation.BE: THE OTHERS (55´) Anton Lachky has created a playful dance composition, a story of four people in a seemingly absurd world, and through it he invites us to start loving planet Earth, to each of us take our share of responsibility and contribute to its recovery, to make our habits and everyday behaviour respectful of the environment in which we exist, because just like our body, it too has its limits and needs to live in balance.

20.10. at 19.00 h SNG Camilla Monga & Emanuele Maniscalco / IT: SULL\’ATTIMO (40´)

Movement and music inspired by the movements of the dancers, a continuous dialogue of sound and gesture bring the viewer into a kind of meditative state. The performance, based on improvisation, explores time. Piano and percussion, a musical composition inspired by jazz, ambient and Brazilian popular music create the basis for the structure of the movement composition and the emotional attunement of the audience.

21 October at 8 p.m. A4 Cie E7ka / FR: LES MIGRATIONS INVISIBLES (SK premiere)

All of us know a state outside our comfort zone, when we are “out of balance” and find ourselves in an unknown territory. Eva Klimáčková explores this state of imbalance, its potential to change our perspective and point of view, to push the boundaries and limits of the stereotype. Through this approach she finds new scales of movement, a new movement vocabulary and explores invisible migrations.
