Perseids at Svábhegy Observatory

On these special nights, we’ll be tracking down the summer’s most beautiful shooting star, the Perseids meteor swarm, at the Svábhegy Observatory. ☄️☄️☄️
You can take the stones falling from the sky in your own hands: we will be conducting meteorite studies with the most beautiful meteorites, and our polarisation microscopes will give you a glimpse into the colourful world of meteorite crystals in rainbow colours.

With the Svábhegy Observatory’s telescope giant, we’ll take a look at the most beautiful celestial objects in the summer sky. ? ?The Hercules cluster of 300,000 stars and the Ring Nebula of Lant, expanding like a cosmic smoke ring, are all smiling back at us. Then, on the terrace of our main building, we’ll continue our exploration of the sky with smaller telescopes. We’ll look at Saturn’s geometrically beautiful ring, Jupiter’s cloud bands, or the star-filled Perseus cluster rising from the radiant of a meteor swarm.

After the telescoping session, we will look up at the sky from the observatory next to the dome and wait for the first Perseids meteors, and watch the exciting lead-up to the shooting star swarm, pondering the beauty of the summer sky. Bring along a polyfoam or blanket to comfortably spy the sky! ??
