Kahlenberg Mountain

01.07.2020 - 31.12.2024

Kahlenberg Mountain. If you are looking for a place to go to for a day trip, one of the places we recommend is Kahlenberg mountain in Vienna. Located in the Vienna Woods it is one of the couple of places where you can enjoy a view over the entire city of Vienna. While there, you can enjoy the view from the Stefaniewarte which lies in the 484-meter-height and from there you can also see some parts of Lower Austria.

One of the interesting things you can see here is also the more than 160 m high transmitter steel tower which serves as a transmission station for the Austrian broadcasting station ORF. It lays next to the Stefaniewarte. Next, you can go and have a look at the St. Josef church adjacent to one of the two terraces built at the mountain where you can enjoy the view. The other one is a part of the restaurant which was built in the early 1930s by architect Erich Boltenstern.

In its history, the Kahlenberg mountain served as an important vantage point in the war against Turks and since the 17th century it has been home to an order of Catholic hermits called Kamaldulenser. One of the notable and perhaps most interesting thing about this place is the fact that various physicists and mathematicians have made their first plans here to write and publish a series of publications to unify science (later known as International Encyclopaedia of Unified Science). Amongst them were people such as Albert Einstein and Otto Neurath.

The beautiful panoramic view from Kahlenberg is certainly something which is worth seeing – not only the city of Vienna but also the vineyards in the vicinity of Kalhlenberg which you can visit and roam around as well. We hope you´ll decide to visit and have lots off fun.
