The National Library of Austria is certainly one of the things you need to visit while in Vienna. The library was built in the early 1720s as a place to store the collection of the Imperial Court Library. The complex of the library includes four museum which stores more than 12 million titles which include all the books published in Austria as well as every foreign work which concerns the country or its history.
Apart from books, the library collection contains items such as maps, globes and sculptures which adorn the walls of the most interesting place in this complex, the Prunksaal (en. State Hall). All of them were made by sculptors Peter & Paul Strudel. The State Hall is the central structure of the library and it is divided into two architectural pieces called peace” and war”. This theme can be seen on the dome fresco as well and it was painted by Daniel Gran. In the middle of the hall, you can see a beautiful marble sculpture of the emperor Charles VI. who commissioned the library to be built.
You´ll be able to have a look at the famous Prunksaal as well as its sculptures and beautiful fresco which is like no other in the world. Although it may seem like a paradise for bookworms, we think everybody will find this landmark a sight worth to be seen.
