The summer season at the Circus Maximus continues with Giacomo Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” in the staging by director Àlex Ollé of La Fura dels Baus under the direction of Donato Renzetti. The story of the opera Madama Butterfly takes place in Nagasaki, Japan. Some sources of information even state that the story is inspired by real events from the end of the 19th century. The disappointed samurai daughter, Cho-Co-San, dies with her own hand after believing American sailor Pinkerton that he really loves her. The story reveals the differences between the two cultures and points to the moral values of their members. Madama Butterfly is one of the most played operas in the world and to this day she continues to impress with melodic and exotic colors.
