Wertheimsteinpark Vienna

Wertheimsteinpark is a park in Vienna that stands out for two reasons: its proximity to the Danube Canal and its one-of-a-kind feature, Austria’s first garden for the blind. The park can be described as a haven of peace in the midst of the city’s bustling streets. The park was designed in 1835 as a private garden for Villa Wertheimstein, thus the name. The special garden, designated for blind people in the southeast, which covers approximately 63,000 m2, deserves special attention. Many plants that can be felt have been integrated, and the plants are complemented by Braille information boards as well. The goal of this creation was to create a park with special plants where blind and visually impaired people could navigate without assistance.

Wertheimsteinpark is a lovely place to spend time. There are numerous small paths throughout the park, as well as a steep drop in terrain to the Danube Canal. The park also contains the remains of the Krottenbach river bed. Families and children can look forward to a large playground, and sunbathers can enjoy plenty of sun as well, thanks to the large lawn that is framed with flowers.
