Top-5 Charming Bookstore Cafés in Krakow

23.06.2019 - 31.12.2022

What could be better than combining cakes, coffee and books? Probably nothing, as it’s so relaxing to have a cup of coffee or tea while reading an interesting book. In Kraków we have several bookstore cafés, that are happy to host you for a while (but please, don’t forget to buy something, anyway:).

I’ve selected my favorite spots where you can enjoy a nice book and a cup of joy at the same time.

1. Lokator
Address: ul. Mostowa 1
Lokator maintains the best traditions of Kraków’s café. It is one of the most popular bookstore café in the Kazimierz district, where besides basic items you can see the ones difficult to find in large network bookstores as well as a carefully prepared selection of children’s literature. Here you can enjoy good coffee with a piece of cake. The bookstore also organizes meetings with writers, books’ illustrators, and publishers. This all sounds really exciting to visit this place!

2. Massolit books&cafe
Address: ul. Felicjanek 4/2
Massolit is an independent English-language bookstore with both used and new books and at the same time a literary café located in Krakow’s old town. They specialize in popular and academic books, most at significantly discounted prices, as well as they have a rich offer of magazines in English.

Massolit was created in 2001 inspired by the tradition of café culture at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. This place has become a venue of many international literary meetings and events, exhibitions and political debates. Their home-made American cakes and great coffee or cocoa are also worth trying. It is definitely my favorite place to relax in Kraków so far.

3. Swoją drogą
Address: ul. Nadwiślańska 5/1
This is a new place on Nadwiślańska street, next to the Bernatka Footbridge. Perfect for lovers of travel literature. Here you can find a wide selection of non-fiction items, as well as guides to interesting places like hard-to-find national parks, albums, but also essays and prose from all around the world. There are also geographical games for children and fan board games. Everything is accompanied by coffee, cake and breakfast sets inspired by various cultures (including English brekkie, American, Scandinavian, Arabic). They also offer waffles (savoury or sweet), sandwiches, shakshuka, oatmeal, granola and a lot more. Perfect place for quietly getting lost in a book, having late breakfast or working on your laptop, they also host occasional literary events and welcome four-pawed friends.

4. BookBook Kawiarnia Literacka
Address: ul. Krakowska 41
This cafe is located in the heart of old Kazimierz. It is a perfect spacious place with books, excellent aromatic coffee, selected spirits, tasty snacks organizing interesting meetings with artists from different areas. It is a place to spend free time hanging here, learning and meeting with friends and interesting strangers as well. Its hall has a very interesting arrangement as it is a work of designers who cooperate with the Nowy Proxima Theater located two floors above. The collection of several thousand literature titles can be found on over fifty bookshelves. You can hide on the mezzanine, surf the Internet, watch the traffic through large windows and even play popular board games in a specially arranged skylight room.

5. Bonobo
Address: Mały Rynek 4
Bonobo Bookstore and Travel Cafe has existed for over three years – their shelves are filled with guides to the furthest places of the globe and interesting globetrotter reports. In the cafe you can try coffee from various corners of the world, sophisticated blends of teas, vegan cakes, vegetarian tarts, tasty patties, delicious cakes, sweet baklava as well as regional beers from Poland and beyond. There is also excellent Chilean wine so you can read a selected book with a glass of it in your hand, combining two small pleasures.
They organize many meetings: book promotions, slide shows from expeditions of famous travelers, cozy gigs, poetry evenings and film screenings. So don’t miss this place when in Kraków.
