Champagne Cellar Tour

At the start of the new year, a truly special wine experience awaits in Budafok: a guided tour through one of Hungary’s largest and most significant historic cellar systems, the legendary Budafok cellar giant. This 8,600-square-metre underground complex once served as the centre of the Royal Hungarian Cellarmaster School and later the nationalised wine industry, and today it preserves remarkable chapters of Hungarian wine history behind usually closed doors.

During the tour, visitors explore long cellar corridors lined with wooden and concrete barrels and see the nearly 100-year-old St. Stephen barrel, which was once the largest oak barrel in the country. Through old photographs and postcards, the story of Budafok’s winemaking heritage and the former glory days of the historic Cellar No. XII come to life.

The programme also includes visits to the Auction Hall and the Soós István School of Viticulture, where the experience concludes with a tasting of five sparkling and frizzante wines from Budafok.

Closed shoes are mandatory in the cellar

Temperature is 12–14 °C, so a light sweater is recommended

The programme is usually sold out, early registration is advised
