Stephen the King

At the beginning of 2026, István, the King, the iconic rock opera by Levente Szörényi and János Bródy, returns in a truly monumental form. This large-scale production will be staged on 18 January 2026 at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna, featuring spectacular theatre-scale sets, a contemporary directorial vision and some of the most prominent figures of Hungarian musical theatre.

The core question of the story – “Tell me, whom would you choose?” – remains strikingly relevant today. Power, faith, community and personal responsibility stand at the centre of the performance, brought to life through powerful music, strong visual elements and an impressive stage presence. The production is directed by Kriszta Székely, who offers a fresh interpretation and new perspectives on this classic work.

Further cast members will be announced later. The performance runs without an intermission, and the visual world of the sets and costumes forms an essential part of the overall concept.

On the day of the event, a dress rehearsal at 3:00 PM precedes the evening performance at 7:00 PM, making this a truly special and festive theatrical occasion.
