From April 17 to May 25, the Budapest Zoo invites visitors to explore Art Aqua, a spectacular new exhibition hosted in the impressive halls of the Biodome. Centered around water – as a source of life, a natural force, and a symbolic element – the exhibit offers a visually stunning and emotionally stirring experience through unique installations, light and sound effects, and immersive artistry. It’s a cultural encounter, a family outing, and an eco-conscious reflection – perfect for children, adults, and all open-minded visitors.
Upon entering the grand space of the Biodome, guests are transported into a different world: an awe-inspiring sensory environment that is both mesmerizing and thought-provoking. Through paintings, photographs, sculptures, and multimedia installations, Art Aqua explores the many faces of water – from life-giving resource to destructive force, from its everyday role to its spiritual and mythological significance. In one space, sparkling light droplets float in the air; in another, LED waves roll across a screen to the sound of music – each element more than just spectacle; it’s a message.
This is not a passive exhibition – it encourages genuine dialogue with nature and ourselves. As visitors move among the artworks, they are reminded of how deeply our lives are intertwined with this essential element, and how vital it is to treat it responsibly. Environmental awareness and social sensitivity were key considerations in curating the exhibition, with the aim of leaving visitors not only enriched but also more conscious.
The Biodome provides an ideal setting: spacious yet segmented into more intimate exhibition zones, fully accessible, with amenities including a baby care room, changing facilities, and a café. The exhibition can easily be combined with a full day at the zoo or a leisurely spring walk in City Park. Families are especially encouraged to visit – the visuals and interactive atmosphere captivate younger visitors, while older children and adults will find deeper meaning in the themes.
Tickets are valid for single entry and also make for great gifts, as this type of exhibition is rarely seen in Hungary. Please note that standard zoo admission and passes do not include access to the Art Aqua exhibit – separate tickets are required and can be flexibly purchased.
