Once known as the wine and sparkling wine capital of Hungary, Budafok still carries this legacy — and the Sauska Winery’s fascinating cellar tours bring it to life once again. On the afternoon of July 18, the gates of the Sauska sparkling wine cellar reopen for those eager not just to taste premium quality, but to dive deeper into the world of winemaking.
The historic Budafok cellar system spans roughly 10,000 square meters, now home to Sauska’s globally acclaimed méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines. This special evening offers a guided Hungarian-language tour, inviting guests on a journey from the hills of Tokaj to the underground tunnels of Budafok.
This isn’t just a themed visit — it’s a genuine time-travel experience, connecting Tokaj and Budafok through the lens of sparkling wine. Guests will learn about the history of the cellar, the unique bond between the two regions, and the meticulous process that turns Tokaj’s base wines into refined, aged sparkling wines. From traditional methods to modern technology, the secrets of Sauska bubbles are unveiled.
The tour also includes a tasting of three premium méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines, offering not only history, but also a sip of Sauska’s philosophy in every glass. The event starts promptly at 5 PM, at the entrance to the cellar on Nagytétényi Street. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated, so punctuality is essential.
Due to the nature of the visit, appropriate attire is recommended: the cellar maintains a constant temperature of 13 °C, so closed-toe shoes and layered clothing are advised. The tour is not suitable for small children, stroller users, or those sensitive to noise and light. Alcohol will not be served to participants under 18, even with a full-price ticket.
Advance online ticket purchase is required, which grants access to the tour — no separate ticket will be issued. Meeting point: next to the winery’s container office.
