In 1988, everyone could apply for a world passport in Hungary, the borders were opened, the possibility to travel was freed, but trains and buses were very expensive. What is freedom if you can’t enjoy it? Three good friends, Ákos, Laci and Petya, who want to go to the West, discover that tickets at MÁV are handwritten using blue Pelikan indigo – and in an apartment in a tenement house in downtown Budapest, chemical experiments are begun to use fake train tickets to see the world…
This animated film for adults, based on real events, tells the story of how the chicks of the nineties solved the ‘smart’ way of travelling with a lot of humour and music from the era. The Blue Pelican is a real nostalgia trip, which can be taken with the help of objects or period music such as “Let’s go banzai!” by Bonanza Banzai, “Lidocaine” by Hypercarma or “The Meatball Bridge Beater” by Little and Badger.
