Literature enthusiasts are once again invited to Vörösmarty Square, Vigadó Square, and the Danube Promenade, where the 96th edition of the Budapest Book Festival – Ünnepi Könyvhét – will be held. More than 150 exhibitors, including major publishers and numerous independent presses, will showcase their latest releases, the works of both acclaimed and emerging authors, and prepare for a rich lineup of literary programs and light music concerts.

The event will be enriched with exciting programs such as author meet-and-greets, book signings, quizzes, competitions, and live music performances – with acts like the Budapest Klezmer Band and the Várkonyi Csibészek adding to the festive atmosphere. The festival also features professional discussions, scientific presentations, and educational book pavilions, including contributions from the Hungarian National Museum and its partner institutions, offering non-fiction books, facsimiles, and signings.

The opening ceremony takes place on the first day of the festival, June 12 at 4:00 PM on the main stage at Vörösmarty Square, where the “Beautiful Hungarian Book 2024” awards will also be presented. The diverse program includes discussions with well-known authors – including János Lackfi, Judit Ildikó Kiss, Gabriella Jakupcsek, László Mérő, and Egon Rónai – as well as presentations for both children and adults.
