Hungarian Pop History Exhibition

Due to the great interest, the Hungarian House of Music’s “The song was written for us! The heroic age of Hungarian popular music and its social effects, from 1957 to the change of regime”. The exhibition, which takes visitors on a journey through the first three decades of Hungarian pop music, with a social, political and sociological perspective, and exciting technical solutions, will be open to the public until 21 January.

Hungarian pop music is present in the lives of every generation. The temporary exhibition of the House of Music promises a real time travel to an era that is certainly familiar to many, perhaps nostalgic, but definitely unavoidable.
In addition to the traditional exhibition tools, the temporary exhibition space includes creative, interactive solutions that playfully involve the visitors in the discovery.

The exhibition, which covers nearly a thousand square meters, is divided into 8 thematic blocks and gives an insight into the everyday life of the era. The exhibition not only focuses on the most prominent artists, bands, emblematic hits and most important events in pop history of the era steeped in politics, but also presents the fan subcultures associated with them, the mediums that are indispensable in the spread of popular music, the institutional system that fundamentally limits the musicians’ freedom of movement and is supervised by strong political censorship, the clubs, the world of tours and musical instruments, as well as the changing relationship between popular music culture and the accompanying arts.
