Between 13 and 20 October, a number of amazing Korean films will be screened at the Corvin Cinema. This year, the 16th Korean Film Festival will screen 24 films in 4+1 sections. The festival will feature the latest Korean films, independent and short films, as well as works by director Kim Hee-jung.
From 13 to 20 October 2023, the Korean Cultural Centre will screen 24 films in 4 sections at the Corvin Cinema and the Sugár Cinema in Budapest.
OPENING FILM | RENEWAL ➟ The week-long Korean Film Festival opens each year with one of the latest Korean films. The screening takes place in a festive atmosphere. This year, Kim Hee-jung’s lyrical meditation on the psychology of love, loss and connection.
FRESH COLLECTION | ➟ Featuring the latest Korean films from action thrillers to musical romantic comedies. It focuses on the emerging trends in Korean cinema alongside the new. This year, the border is a common thread in the section’s films, with political, underworld, religious and personal sides sometimes comically, sometimes dramatically, pushing against each other.
FACES SECTION | KIM HEE-JUNG ➟ showcases some of Korea’s most influential filmmakers to give audiences a comprehensive view of each filmmaker. 2023 will focus on the work of director Kim Hee-jung, who will be in person at the Budapest festival.
FOCUS COLLECTION | BEING WITH EACHOTHER ➟ Each year, the selection focuses on a specific theme. This year, films from different genres explore how we treat each other, whether in the family or at work.
EXTRA SECTION | TRANSFORMATIONS ➟ A block of film history curiosities, independent, artists’ and short films. In 2023, the section offers five captivating short films, including an animation, whose ideas are sure to be remembered.
CLOSING FILM | FUTURE ➟ To close the festival, Um Tae-hwa’s disaster thriller will bring us the thrill of conflict and relationships unfolding in a world on fire. The film is based on a webtoon, a Korean digital comic book. You can learn more about the genre at the Centre’s current exhibition.
