International Book Festival

Autumn starts with lots of books and good vibes at the International Book Festival. You can meet your favourite authors, get your books signed or discover new releases. The popular American science fiction author John Scalzi will be our guest of honour, and many other renowned, international authors will visit the festival. This time the focus of the event will be on Dutch literature.

This year’s Festival at Millenáris will feature 140 exhibitors and more than 40 foreign authors in the Park, in Buildings B (Great Hall) and D (Glass Hall), in the Europe Point and in the National Dance Theatre. A special section for children will promote children’s books and reading, and offer a colourful program for families in Millenáris Building D.

The Budapest International Book Festival traditionally hosts the world’s most prestigious writers and poets. This year’s guest of honour is the popular American science fiction writer John Scalzi, who will receive the Budapest Grand Prize from the Mayor of Budapest.
The Netherlands is this year’s “Guest of Honour”. In recent years, the number of Dutch books published in Hungarian translation has been exceptionally high, even by Central European standards, as reflected in the slogan of the Dutch pavilion: “on the sea of books”. Visitors to the Book Festival will be able to meet dozens of prominent Dutch writers, poets and illustrators, including Arnon Grunberg, author and journalist of The Man Without Illness, Abram de Swaan, essayist and sociologist, Martin Michael Driessen, writer, theatre and opera director, and Annamarie Bon, popular youth author. The guest of honour stand will host a series of round tables, thematic discussions and readings.
