Simply craftsmen

The unique exhibition, where you can admire the skills and crafts of our ancestors, can be found in the ÚĽUV Gallery on Obchodná Street in Bratislava from 8 April to 12 November 2025.

Simply, the craftsmen of Folk Art Production are the bearers of traditions, values and lifestyles that have been handed down from generation to generation.

ÚĽUV has been honouring them since 1959 and now brings you a unique exhibition of the works of those who won the award between 2011 and 2024.

The aim of the exhibition is to highlight their skills and qualities in working with materials, as well as the uniqueness and original design of their products. Highlighting each individual is a priority for the curatorial tandem.

The message that the curators of the exhibition, Eva Ševčíková and Dominika Žažová, address to the general public is unambiguous: “We can safely say that the masters and mistresses of folk art production are the continuators not only of traditional craftsmanship, but also of a way of life. Although no longer in a material form; rather in a spiritual dimension – their attitude to life, the qualities that guide their lives and which have graced our ancestors for centuries. Above all, it is independence, respect for the life around them, responsibility for the future, an inclination towards localism and sustainability, and often humility, but at the same time a healthy self-confidence that flows naturally from one’s own creative satisfaction, from penetrating into the depths of things and understanding them.”
