After a hiatus of almost a year, we are resuming our neo-soul jam sessions. Neo soul night opens with a house band that anyone can join – musician, musician, singer, singer, rapper, rapper. Neo-soul is an ethereal term, referring to music ranging from soul to R&B, driven by the rhythms of hip-hop and jazz-funk.
Neo soul originated in the 1990s in the US and UK. It was made famous by artists such as D’Angelo, Erykah Badu (“the first lady of neo soul”), and Lauryn Hill. The new millennium has brought with it success thanks to the work of singers and songstresses such as Macy Gray, Jill Scott, Joss Stone, India.Arie, Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys, and John Legend.
If this is your music, you definitely can’t miss out on the next neo soul jam, whether as an audience member or a musician. Don’t be shy and come and meet the house band members, tell us what your musical superpower is and we’ll figure out how to use it. We always try to get a turn for everyone, so don’t wait until the last minute, so that everyone who wants to can play.
