SIGNS – Kata KISSOCZY
In the exhibition spaces of Danubiana we present sculptural objects by Kata Kissoczy, symbolic signs of the contemporary period from the last ten years. Since the 1980s, she has belonged to a distinctive young generation that immediately followed the work of the European Transavantgarde and Neue Wilde. Particularly between 1985 and 1987, various forms of jigsaw puzzles became typical for her, with which she attracted even foreign gallerists. Later, she switched to a different kind of artistic work, expressing her wit and humorous side in original compositions of figurative fragments. The relief, the spatial three-dimensionality of the reworked metal waste remained in them throughout her development period. Originally in her 2010 exhibition RestArt after composing objects and environments from wood, she discovered for herself the charm and beauty of metal plate scraps with remarkable technical ornaments created after laser cutting. By welding and shaping, she began to create their unconventional compositions of geometric and figurative elements. The constructive connection of most of the found shape modules is variable, but the juxtaposition of movement and static appears especially in the mobile heads and a variety of variable spatial objects. A metal object with a head shape, a distinctive eye, an embedded glass or other found object changes in front of us according to the action of light with color, then the metal object becomes dynamic and playful. Light, natural or artificial, in conjunction with virtual, mechanical or motor movement, acquires original spatial connections. Visual – kinetic and light-kinetic, whose almost scenic action often created a new beauty before our eyes, but especially a shadow play composed of welded metal strips, ornaments and plates. In Kata Kissoczy’s mysterious space and time, but also in our inner and outer world.
