SKVOSTY – joint exhibition of paintings by Agnes Vavrinova and jewellery by Maria Špánikova 05. 04. – 28. 04. 2023, Manor House in Modra

Agnes Vavrin:

She is a native of Nové Zámky, who has been living and working in Stupava for more than 20 years. From the world of foreign trade she moved to the world of art. Her creative beginnings are connected with oil painting under the guidance of academic painter Petr Orvan. Gradually, the author became enchanted with acrylics and graphics. The academic painter Marián Komáček introduced her to the creative play with these media. The multi-genre artist has participated in various artistic stays abroad – in Venice, Austria. Hungary , or India. There she met some true magicians of art – Sergey Glinkov, Attila Szücs, Amit Kapoor. Their advice, support and appreciation is greatly appreciated.

“From a young age I knew that my world was a world of colours and materials that could be used to create something. I have always been fascinated by crossing the boundaries between reality and imagination. It’s the process that I enjoy most about creating, and it’s also a state of mind where I become part of the game too.”

Mária Špániková:

“As a little Christmas present, my mother brought me home from Trenčianske Teplice , where I was born on 19 December 1956. Even as a little girl I was fascinated by glass – the coloured balls in the front gardens, the coloured shards and slides, which I liked to collect the most. I was a creative inventive . I wanted to follow that path, but life steered me in a different direction. Still, my colorful shards and creativity have not left me. It wasn’t until a silly flu virus (circa 2012) put me to bed that I created my first piece of jewelry by twisting, changing and turning slides in bed. Through learning, exploration and patience, I developed my own jewelry making technique. I now use not only glass fragments (shards from artist Gordana Turuk), but also minerals, Swarovski crystals and costume jewelry accessories. I also try other, completely different techniques. I am learning to paint with watercolor, acrylic, wax – encaustic. Again, slowly, step by step, I am piecing together from coloured slides the world I have had so deep in my soul since I was a little girl.”

The curator of the exhibition is Mgr. Pavol Šima-Juriček
