Film screening – The first century of Walter Arlen
Screenplay and direction: Stephanus Domanig
Runtime: 91min
Language: German, English subtitles
Austria, 2018
The composer Walter Arlen, born in 1920 in Vienna, won recognition late. In 1939 he was expelled by the Nazis from his birthplace because of Jewish background, and therefore spent most of his professional life in the USA, where he worked for L.A. Times as a music critic. It was not until the mid-1980s that he made his own compositions available to listeners. Domanig portrays a 98-year-old artist with a good memory of his birthplace in Vienna: an emotionally moving and intellectually appealing contribution to the topic of emigration.
In the presence of director Stephen Domanig and producer Petr Janecek.
In cooperation with the US Embassy in Bratislava and the Embassy of the State of Israel in Slovakia.
Admission free, the film must be registered at: barbora.putiskova@bmeia.gv.at
