Harmoniemusik is a minimalist flowing movement in space and time, oscillating between music as atmosphere and music as form. The individual musicians, positioned around the audience, surround it first with impulses, gradually transforming into harmonies and motifs, until finally something like a musical development gradually emerges, which tends to return to its starting point.
It was written by Hans Thomalla, a leading German composer based in Chicago, who will also be performing the work in person as part of White Night.
An attempt to express his personal experience of the life dramas or losses he has faced in recent years, it creates something of a happy place, lasting nearly an hour, in which one can escape from sadness but cannot completely forget it.
The concert will also include the premiere performance of Nonet by Andrej Harman, a composition student at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava.
Since its inception in 2008, the Quasars Ensemble has been one of the most unique professional music ensembles of its kind in Slovakia. In addition to contemporary classical music, it is equally devoted to music of earlier epochs and has gained international respect for its boldly constructed dramaturgical concepts. The ensemble collaborates with the world’s leading composers and performers and is a regular guest at major international festivals. The ensemble is a laureate of the Crystal Wing award for 2013 in the music category and has recorded 14 CD titles on several music labels.
