From October 8 to 11, 2026, Berlin will once again become a hub for international animation art. The Festival of Animation Berlin (FAB) brings the fascinating world of animated film to the capital, presenting a diverse program of contemporary short and feature films, creative hands-on activities, and high-caliber industry events.
The festival celebrates the artistic diversity of animation in all its facets—ranging from classic 2D and stop-motion techniques to innovative digital formats. This year’s edition features a total of 161 films from 78 countries in the official competition, alongside numerous special screenings. The main venues are the Silent Green Kulturquartier and City Kino Wedding.
Program Highlights:
Stop Motion Walk: A larger-than-life bear figure on a bicycle will be animated live, frame by frame, in front of Berlin’s City Hall. Created by Dina Velikovskaya and Sana Schönle (animation studio TORP), this initiative invites passersby to try their hand at animating while simultaneously highlighting the animation scene.
Special Screening – “Juliet and the King”: This feature film by Ashkan Rahgozar tells the story of an Iranian king who falls in love with an actress in Paris and invites her to Tehran for a performance of “Romeo and Juliet.”
Pink Panda & School Screenings: The children’s and family program offers carefully curated short film selections for young movie fans, as well as special screenings for school classes.
FAB Horror Special: Under the theme “Spooky Fun with FAB,” the festival presents three short film programs filled with dark and suspenseful animations.
Creative Workshops: From stop-motion basics to storytelling, hands-on workshops for children and adults invite participants to get involved and experiment. There is also an extensive supporting program:
In addition to regular film screenings, FAB offers a dynamic platform for exchange and networking within the industry. Formats such as the Berlin Animation Hub, the FAB Pitch for new projects, talks with special guests, as well as festival trailers and warm-up events, make the festival an inspiring meeting place for film fans and professionals alike.
