This year we will meet you twice at Devín Castle – in June and August.
On the first Saturday in August, we will take you back to the Renaissance – beautiful, exploratory, whimsical and boisterous.
And what awaits you?
10.00 a.m. Opening of the gates of Devín Castle
11.00 a.m. Yoklama
Demonstrations of combat readiness by the Janissaries – the height of the Ottoman army. Complemented by a brief explanation of the different types of soldiers.
12.00 Landsknechti
An entertaining and interesting insight into the first half of the 16th century, when European battlefields were criss-crossed by “landsknechts” accompanied by no less warlike women.
13,00 Renaissance dances
A story set at a ball will reveal the many human qualities and beauty of courtly Renaissance dance.
14.00 Heroes of the anti-Turkish battles
A performance based on the book of the same name, which captures the turbulent fates of the characters defending our territory during the 150-year-long period of Ottoman invasions of Hungary. A programme full of real historical figures, stunt performances and fencing.
15,00 Kaukliar PET and his hilarious stunts
16.00 Knight tournament in the manner of Italian tournaments “La giostra”
4 knights with their steeds fight for the audience’s favour in tests of skill, but also in daring clashes in jousting. Equestrian performances alternate with the dancing of the ladies, the exercise of the pikemen or the swordsmanship of the squires of the individual knights.
5.30 p.m. Recital of period music and poetry
A selection of prose and poetry performed by master swordsman Peter Koza, accompanied by Renaissance music.
6.30 p.m. Closing ceremony
Fencing duels and a flag salute as a final punctuation to the event.
19.00 closing of the gates of Devín Castle
Throughout the day there will be all sorts of entertainment and pastimes:
– shooting range with bows, crossbows and knife throwing
– live and wooden horse rides
– children’s corner with various games (catapult, stilts, throwing rings at the unicorn, throwing rings at swords, throwing balls at the dragon)
– craft and sales stalls, refreshment stand
After buying a ticket, in addition to our performances, you can also see the whole castle area with all its beautiful corners and interesting exhibitions.
