If you mention Vienna to anybody, they will definitely know about Schönbrunn – one of the most beautiful imperial palaces in middle Europe. The pompous and majestic architecture of the imperial world of past Vienna. But in our opinion, the thing which makes it so popular is not only the beautifully designed and decorated rooms and interior of the palace but mostly the beautiful scenery you can enjoy outside.

In the area of about 120 hectares there are many beautiful things to see. Perhaps the most famous one is the majestic Neptune fountain located exactly opposite the palace at the other end of the Great Parterre which we may add, is an immaculate representation of the baroque style of the gardens. Beautiful designs made from various plants that look like embroidery patterns.

For lovers of the ancient world, the Roman Ruin at the slope of the hill which leads to the Gloriette is definitely something you´ll want to see. Built-in the late 18th century, the ensemble of these artificial ruins completely blends with the surrounding area and forms a picturesque scenery worth to see.

If you´d like to have fun and enjoy solving riddles, the labyrinth built in the area is the place to visit. In the center of the maze there´s a viewing platform from where you can look around and observe the nearby area. Another famous piece which completes the scenery of this beautiful place is the Gloriette built at the top of the Schönbrunn Hill. From there you´ll enjoy a view over the whole area of Schönbrunn and Vienna while admiring the triumphal arch adorned by sculptures and a huge imperial eagle perched on top. For those who would like some refreshments, you can buy a coffee or a drink in the central section of the Gloriette at Café Gloriette.

And if you just want to relax and walk around the gardens enjoying the various beautifully arranged flower beds, that´s okay as well. You may even wander into the little Japanese garden located Near the Palm House or check out the animals which found their home in the adjoining Schönbrunn Zoo.

The gardens offer a lot to discover – in our opinion, one day is definitely not enough to see it all.
